Lake Tamblingan

Kawasan Alas Mertajati, Munduk, Banjar, Buleleng

Lake Tamblingan is a volcanic lake situated at approximately 1,100 metres above sea level, surrounded by the dense and preserved tropical forest of Alas Mertajati. The lake is a sacred area for the Adat Dalem Tamblingan community — protected and sanctified through ceremonial rituals held every two years. The lake's main appeal lies in its serene, clear waters, the reflection of green forest on its surface, and the mystical atmosphere created by morning mist. Visitors can enjoy traditional boat rides (pedahu/jukung) across the lake, forest trekking along its shores, and the sight of ancient temples standing at the water's edge. The lake is also a water source for communities across two regencies — Buleleng and Tabanan — making it not only a tourism destination but also a vital ecosystem that must be collectively preserved.
